Total Ankle, Knee and Hip Replacement in Portland and Vancouver
Arthroplasty or total joint replacement surgery has become a common procedure. We perform total hip replacement and total knee replacement to repair damage from severe injuries or replace joints damaged by advanced arthritis. Weight-bearing joints in the hips and knees undergo continuous stress and lose cartilage as we age.
According to the CDC, over 332,000 Americans had hip replacement surgery in the past year and 720,000 had knee replacement surgery. When cartilage designed to cushion and protect moving bones deteriorates, bones can rub against each other, causing severe pain, swelling and limited motion. Total hip replacement surgery or knee replacement surgery can eliminate pain and lost mobility and dramatically improve a patient\'s quality of life.
Arthritis can also affect your ankles. When simple conservative, nonsurgical treatments fail to relieve your pain and difficulty moving, we may perform arthroscopic surgery to remove damaged tissue, or a total ankle replacement if the ankle has more advanced, more extensive damage. With total ankle replacement surgery, we implant an artificial ankle joint. Total ankle replacement surgery is a good alternative to ankle fusion surgery for some patients with ankle arthritis. Unlike ankle fusion, which limits ankle mobility, total ankle replacement maintains the ability of the ankle joint to move up and down.
Our orthopedic surgeons are experienced in ankle replacement, hip replacement and knee replacement and have performed hundreds of total joint replacement procedures for people in Clackamas, Sandy, Happy Valley, Gresham, Portland and Vancouver.
